We had been invited to spend the week end with Clive and Judith. On our way there we stopped off at Nostell Priory and had lunch there admiring the view from the car park. After lunch we toured the Priory which was fascinating. The room guides were the most informative we have met. We spent quite some time looking at the Peter Brueghel Painting ‘The Road to Calgary’. There was lots of Chippendale furniture including pelmets, beds, dressers, tables and some very comfortable upright chairs. There was an attractive internal apse in the main hall.
From there we went on to Leeds where we spent our evening enjoying Indian food prepared by Judith. The following morning we went for a walk around Victoria Lake in Roundhay Park which is just down the road from their house.
During the rest of the day we visited the museum, art gallery and The Hyde Park Picture House.
On the Sunday we visited Saltaire a UNESCO World Heritage site where we wandered around the shops and galleries that are now there.
Salts Mill powered by coal - not the river
The inside as it is now.
After visiting the mill and viewing the David Hockney works there we had a guided tour of the local moorland.
